Selling Your Car on eBay: How to Write a Good Description

It is easy to list a car for sale on eBay Motors if you follow their detailed step-by-step guide. You receive instructions and information to enter in about your car every step of the way. Although it is possible to create an eBay auction listing in less than five minutes, don?t rush. Take your time. The quality and effort you put into writing a detailed vehicle description plays an important role in its final sale status.

So, how do you write a good description for your eBay Motors sales page?

Know as much as you can about your vehicle. Ebay Motors has a printable checklist it encourages members to use. This checklist tells you what you should know and list about your car when selling it online. Aside from the year, make, model, sub model, mileage, transmission, and cylinders, you should cover the safety features, power option features, optional add-ons, accident reports, and maintence histories. The more you know about the for sale car, the better the description is.

Make sure your vehicle description is easy to read. Alto often, new eBay sellers like to play around with the features provided by eBay in the description box. This includes changing the font sizes, colors, and style. Do not do this. It is okay to bold a few items and to use red print to highlight an awesome feature, but do not overdo it. Your eBay description should be easy on the eyes and easy to read.

In keeping with easy to read, avoid long sentences and long paragraphs. Interested buyers want to learn about the car as quickly as possible, not struggle their way through a written essay. For that reason, it is best to use line breaks. List a feature of the vehicle, hit enter, and move onto the next line. You can see an example below.

Make: Mitsubishi
Model: Lancer
Sub Model: Sportback LS
Transmission: Manual
Doors: 4 Doors
Style: Wagon
Mileage: 34,235
Power Features: Power Steering, Power Locks, Power Windows

By using this format, interested buyers can read down the line. This is easier than reading long sentences and paragraphs. Remember, you want to make buying a car easy, not a hassle.

Proofread your descriptions before posting them. No one has perfect grammar, but it does tend to send off warning signals. Many buyers are scammed on eBay by people claiming to have an item they do not. One of the warning signs is a poorly written listing. Proofread yours before posting. In fact, if you have Microsoft Word or Microsoft Works, write your descriptions with these programs, as they have spell check. When creating your listing, just copy and paste the description into eBay?s description box.

Go into detail about payment and pickup. Ebay has two set locations for information on pickup or delivery and payment options. Typically, you can only choose a few. If you are willing to be flexible with buyers, write this towards the end of your description. Tell buyers you would not mind driving two hours to deliver the car if they meet you, you do not mind them picking up the vehicle, and you do not mind arranging delivery by tow, provided they pay the delivery charge. Clearly stating this in your description eliminates confusion later on.

Although a good eBay Motors sales page is one that is detailed, accurate, and easy to read, interested buyers are still likely to have questions. Encourage them to ask these questions and always be available to do so.
